     Under the support of the Energy Committee of the Ministry of Economics (Now Energy Bureau of the Ministry of Economics). New Energy Center of National Taiwan University has established in 2000. The development of NEC focused on the technology of new and renewable energy which are including the study of new technology of renewable energy and energy new development, for example, pioneer technology of cooling and air conditioning, small and distributed power generation system, LED lighting system.

    New Energy Center has been in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The research team members are organized according to the function of the research objective. We have professors from the Engineering College, Electric Engineering College and other University to join with the research work.

    The management characteristic is to emphasis the collaboration of academy and industry. The description of the research and development is mainly on the system integration of the products. The direction of research and development is for the product initiation. Bringing the academy and industry together, looking for the new creation and innovation, we want to break through the bottle-neck promotion of solar energy to develop and introduce the new products.

    New Energy Center is to make the best use of the powerful academic resources of Taiwan University, to emphasize the innovation, expecting to contribute to the energy industry in our country, and working to create the University Research Center of the collaboration of the academy and the industry.

     To increase the international cooperation and speedy development, National Taiwan University has signed the mutual cooperation agreement with Odessa Research Institute of Ukraine. We also maintained a good relationship with the researchers in Japan, Russia and China. We have close cooperation relationship with TOYODA University of Japan, Russia Science College. We have exchanged the mutual visits. With this kind of cooperation, we have improved the cooperation of the academy and the industry and also bring in a lot of new energy technology.

    The urgent need in our country is to create a University Research Center of the Collaboration of the academy and the industry. NEC has started a first step. We hope we can have more enthusiastic people to involve, to support and to encourage us in future. We welcome more of the industry companies to share our development and to fulfill what we said in our slogan, that is, “ New Energy Center of National Taiwan University, Rush for Innovation, Partners to You.”
