Program Objectives |
The objectives of our program are to give to all participating students a
solid technical training and teamwork experience, in the process we promote environmental
consciousness among students and the general public. |
Complete a successful project within time line and budget constaints, that
allows the team members to learn 'on-hands' engineering, management skills, and business
skills. Promote science and engineering as a field of study. Enlighten people on the
advantages of solar energy technologies as an alternate fuel source. |
|
About the Team and Vehicle |
Our team decided to create a solar powered vehicle in order to attempt to
find newer and ecologically-safer transportation methods and to support technological
exchanges between various Universities as well as to encourage research on renewable
energies in Quebec. Certainly, we will not change the world of transportation; however, if
we elevate the level of environmental consciousness, our efforts will not have been in
vain. |
Since 1994, Team Northern Sun, a team of twenty undergraduate engineering
students, has been building McGill University's second solar car. With the help of major
sponsor Canadair the vehicle will be ready for the Canadian Solar Discovery Challenge in
June and will participate in the World Solar Challenge in Australia. |
Ralos II was built to compete in the 1993 Sunrayce event in the United
States, and it has been maintained and improved since then. Ralos II came first in the 100
lap, 50 mile 1995 Canadian Solar Challenge, with additional awards for best design, best
endurance, best acceleration and safety. Team Ralos intends to design and build a new car
for the 1997 Canadian Solar Discovery Challenge. |

About the Team and Vehicle |
SunQuest, the Queen's University Solar Vehicle Team is Canada's most
successful team, involving nearly 100 students in Business, Engineering, Education, and
Science. Our accomplishments include being the first, and only Canadian team to complete
the World Solar Challenge, and Canada's top finish at Sunrayce, sixth place in 1995. |
Waterloo has been involved in each of the Sunrayce events. Midnight Sun is
typically Waterloo's largest student project, and at its peak will involve more than one
hundred students. Students from many faculties and departements are involved, including
Engineering, Math, and the Arts. |
The SunStang Team, comp
eting with their first solar car, was the only Canadian entry in the World Solar
Challenge. The Team was the only Canadian entry to cross the finish line in the last day
at Sunrayce '95, and had the distinct honor of being second place amongst the rookie
teams. The SunStang Team is distinguished by their very energetic outreach program which
includes the annual High School Solar Challenge as well as the 1993 and 1995 Canadian
Solar Challenge. The SunStang Team is geared up to participate in the Canadian Solar
Discovery Challenge, and also to compete in the 1996 World Solar Challenge and Sunrayce
97. |
