Special Awards

Australian Greenhouse Office award for environmental responsibility This was the first year that the AGO award was presented, and was judged on the basis of a simplified Greenhouse Gas Index of the efficiency of the vehicle, based on its weight, payload and time taken to complete the course.

Battler Award - Presented by the Government of the Northern Territory to the team who overcame the most adversity to complete the course within event regulation.

University of Waterloo


Katherine Clunies Ross - Presented by the Energy Research Unit of the Northern Territory University in memory of Katherine Clunies Ross who was closely involved with the NTU and WSC, and died suddenly at age 31. This award is presented to the team, who in the opinion of the Observer Corps, exhibited the best team spirit.
